9. Gucci’s sustaining!
Gucci has always been one of my favourite fashion teams in the world. There’s Ms. Giannini delighting our senses with each collection, but there’s also the credibility that Gucci brings with their responsible and calm approach towards eco-awareness.
For Pre Fall ’12, Gucci’s created the Sustainable Soles collection, which includes the Marola Green ballerinas for women, and the California Green sneakers for men. All of this created out of bio-plastic which is a biodegradable material in compost used as an alternative to petrochemical plastic.
I’d personally prefer Gucci to wow us with an entire sustainable collection with one of their more sartorially inclined accessories, think the ‘delphine’ high heel open toe sandal, or the jackie khaki nubuck shoulder bag in faux leather.
I dream purely because they’re one of the fashion houses who you’ve come to expect clever sustainable fashion from, but the Sustainable Soles collection seems like a promising start.
Oh, and YSL still leads for having given us the Tribute Sandals in rubber.
